Commissioners delight with courthouse deal

Hopes for rapid conclusion

The Chairman of Ramsey Commissioners says it's too early yet so say what - if any effect - the purchase of the town's courthouse will have on the local rates.

The Department of Home Affairs has accepted a revised bid from the commissioners, following what was described as an amicable meeting with government representatives last night (Wed)

It brings to an end almost two months of uncertainty for the people of Ramsey, who back in February overwhelmingly stated their desire to retain the historic building as a community asset.

Speaking on Mandate this morning, Commissioners Chairman, Andy Cowie, said the board was 'delighted' to have retained the Courthouse 'for the benefit of the local community' and hoped the deal could be concluded shortly.
