Coastguard and lifeboat prevent yacht being badly damaged

High winds and swell cause dangerous conditions

Coastguard and lifeboat crews rescued a yacht which was in danger in Peel bay this morning. 

The vessel, which had two people on board, had slipped its anchor and was being smashed against the groyne which branches out from East Quay.

Crews battled high onshore winds and swell, as they attached a line and towed the vessel into deeper water.

Once the yacht was alongside the breakwater, the sailors were taken back to the lifeboat station to check for injuries and for them to dry off and warm up with tea and biscuits.

The yacht's hull wasn’t breached and no water was taken on.
