DOI hit by 'breakdown' at asphalt manufacturing plant this morning
The Department of Infrastructure has apologised for an 'unforeseen and unavoidable delay' which means the closure of the Mountain Road between the Creg-ny-Baa and the Bungalow has been extended until 8am tomorrow (Saturday 3 May).
It was hoped it would be reopened by 6pm tonight (Friday 2 May), but the Department's asphalt manufacturing plant 'suffered a breakdown this morning' and so work was delayed.
A spokesperson confirmed that whilst production has now resumed, it is at a slower rate than normal.
The team is to continue laying the new surface into the evening, at which point it will be re-lined and then left to cool and harden.
