Clean-up operation ongoing following Storm Amy

Floods, fallen trees and a landslide among issues

Eighteen reports of flooding, a tree falling onto a house in Ballaugh and a landslide in Malew are among the issues the Department of Infrastructure faced during the first named storm of the season.

Storm Amy hit the Island last Friday and Saturday (3-4 October), with the clean-up operation ongoing.

Fallen trees proved a challenge across the Island, including on Whitebridge in Onchan where a tree landed partially on a car, and in Ballaugh Glen where a tree fell across the carriageway and onto a house.

At Quarterbridge Roundabout in Douglas, a specialist contractor had to be brought in to remove a tree that was lodged under the bridge.

Once the worst of the conditions had subsided, main routes were swept and debris and gullies cleared to ensure they're ready for the next bout of adverse weather.

Two issues remain ongoing; Glen Moar Road in Malew is closed due to a landslide, while Church Hill in Laxey is shut because of a partially collapsed wall.
