Claim MLC voting is too partisan

More relevant experience needed in upper chamber

Partisanship is more important than qualifications when it comes to voting in new members of the Legislative Council.

That's the belief of unsuccessful candidate Adrian Tinkler.

The accountant and former Rushen Parish Commissioner secured just two votes and dropped out after round two in this week's round of elections. Former High Bailiff Michael Moyle was also unsuccessful and dropped out.

The two vacancies were eventually filled by MHKs Tim Crookall and David Anderson.

Mr Tinkler believes the whole process needs to be examined, as people with relevant experience and qualifications are needed in the upper house to help scrutinise legislation.
