Hymns, prayers and blessings in chapel
The Tynwald site in St John's has held religious significance for at least 1000 years, dating back to the time of the Celts.
Continuing the long holy association, this morning dignitaries and politicians poured into the small St John's Chapel for prayers and bible readings.
Winner of this year's Cleveland Medal Ruth Tickle performed, with hymns including 'How Great Thou Art', and 'Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory' sung at intervals throughout.
The 30 minute ceremony drew to a close with a blessing from the chaplain of the House of Keys, followed by the national anthem:
