Children treated for hypothermia after quarry swim

Two boys rescued by firefighters after evening dip

Two children have been treated for hypothermia after swimming at a quarry in Castletown.

Firefighters from Castletown, and a technical rescue team from Douglas, responded to reports the boys were having difficulty exiting the water.

It happened at around 8.30pm last night (21 May).

Rescue teams found the boys out of the water but stuck on a ledge just above the water line and below a steep rock face.

Due to the difficult access an inflatable rescue sled was deployed to reach them and bring them to a safer area where they were winched to safety.

They were then treated by an ambulance crew.

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service is urging the public to take extra care when swimming in open water.
