Chief minister 'really concerned' about getting inward migration balance right

Alf Cannan says it's been a priority for CoMin in the past 6-12 months

The chief minister says his administration has been 'really concerned' about getting the balance of inward migration right.

Earlier this month government set out a detailed programme to reform its immigration policy, outlining a phased tightening of visa routes, alongside new incentives to attract workers and returning residents.

A June 2025 report, highlighted the Island’s growing reliance on inward migration to sustain population growth, maintain public services and meet labour market demands.

Appearing on the Mannin Line (Tuesday), Alf Cannan says his government has been forced to adopt a positive immigration approach in recent years:
