Asked to clarify Island's 'best interests'

The chief minister says the Island has an interest in the 'best possible outcome' in Brexit negotiations.

Howard Quayle was responding to a question in the House of Keys from South Douglas MHK Kate Beecroft.

She asked him if he would make a statement regarding what action had been taken to ascertain the opinion and views of Manx residents regarding Brexit.

Mr Quayle said government was working closely with colleagues in the UK to ensure the Island's interests were represented.

But Mrs Beecroft said these were not always the same as the UK's, adding he needed to be clearer about just what the Island's interests were.

Mr Quayle told the Economic Affairs Team had included questions to gauge public opinion to Brexit in two recent surveys on social attitudes and business confidence.
