Chief minister pays tribute to Chris Garrett's 'heroic, selfless and tireless work'

Manx bomb disposal expert killed in eastern Ukraine

The chief minister has paid tribute to Manx veteran Chris Garrett following his death in Ukraine.

Alfred Cannan says he was 'shocked and deeply saddened by the news', adding Chris's 'heroic, selfless and tireless work in Ukraine over the past decade - through the charity Prevail Together, of which he was Co-Founder and Chair - has undoubtedly saved many lives and eased suffering.'

The charity confirmed that Chris, a bomb disposal expert from Peel who specialised in mine clearance, had been killed following an incident in eastern Ukraine on Tuesday.

Mr Cannan says his thoughts are with Chris's family, his loved ones, and colleagues at this 'incredibly difficult and distressing time'.
