Youth justice team cuts prompt great concern

The impact of cuts to the youth justice team; decriminalising small amounts of cannabis; and speeding issues on the Island's roads.

These were all thoughts raised by Tynwald members at the November sitting yesterday evening, as they received and debated the chief constable's annual report for 2017/18.

The report has shown an increase in crime overall, and an (as Chief Constable Gary Roberts described it) 'alarming' 22% rise in the number of young people being arrested.

It also draws attention to areas such as domestic violence, mental health, the prevalence of cannabis in the Isle of Man, and an increase in the number of police officers being off work with stress-related conditions.
