Charity welcomes cancer screening upgrade

Upgrade to DBT supported by £70K donation

The Island has taken a step forward in diagnosing early-stage breast cancer - sparing many women invasive treatments.

Small, subtle signs of cancer, which have sometimes been missed, are expected to be picked up with new screening software producing detailed, 3D mammograms.

The Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trust has donated £70,000 for the upgrade to Digital Breast Tomosynthesis or DBT.

By giving medics the clearest view yet of breast tissue, it's hoped there will be fewer inconclusive tests and fewer recalls -  sparing patients an anxious wait.
