Charges dropped against fisherman who was 'in the wrong place at the wrong time'

No evidence offered in 26-year-old's case

A Sulby man who was accused of playing a part in bringing more than £300,000 of cannabis to the Isle of Man has had the charges against him dropped.

Liam Anthony Lewis, of Sulby Glen, appeared at Douglas Courthouse yesterday (18 January) where he was told the prosecution would be offering no evidence.

The 26-year-old had previously denied any part in producing more than 15 kilograms of cannabis, and a number of THC vapes, and being concerned in their supply on 17 November.

The drugs were alleged to have come to the Island on a fishing boat Mr Lewis had just started working on.

The prosecutor told the court: "It appears Mr Lewis was in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Magistrates agreed to dismiss the charges and awarded defence costs.
