Changing social care for elderly 'will take time'

Minister says the market isn't ready for more elderly residents living at home

It will take time for the Island's social care system to have enough support to encourage more elderly residents to live in their own homes for longer.

That's from Health and Social Care Minister Lawrie Hooper after Manx Care announced Cummal Mooar in Ramsey would close before a replacement facility is ready, something the Minister says his department is opposed to.

Public Health has been commissioned to look at the future care needs of the Island with a view to helping Manx residents stay at home instead of moving into residential care if they need additional support.
