Changes to help Island charities meet regulatory requirements

Hopes organisations will benefit from greater support, guidance and education

The Attorney General has unveiled new measures to make it easier for Island charities to navigate their regulatory requirements.

Charities will benefit from greater support, guidance and education.

Important changes include the introduction of the electronic submission of notification forms and a streamlined process involving the re-design and re-branding of the forms.

Also risk-based accounts reviews are being introduced along with more engagement with charities directly prior to rejection of forms or accounts.

The regulatory requirement for charities on the Island are onerous and time-consuming and it's hoped a number of practical changes to ease the administrative process will be welcomed.

Among the changes will be new guidance and user friendly web resources and community engagement clinics from the charities administration team to provide guidance and support.

Also, the charities team has been in talks with the Charities Commission of England and Wales to adopt best practices regarding accounts, reporting and compliance.
