Changes to employment law to take effect from April

The reforms are based on feedback from a public consultation

Significant changes to the Island's employment law come into effect from the beginning of April.

The amendments will see the right to a written statement and itemised pay statement provided by employers extended to all workers not just employees.

It marks the first step in the Department for Enterprise's plan to bring forward a number of employment reforms to employment legislation.

The reforms are based on feedback from a public consultation carried out in 2022, and form part of wider work being undertaken on employment legislation matters by the Department.

Minister for Enterprise, Tim Johnston told Manx Radio the changes will also apply to people working under zero hours contracts, a move aimed at enhancing transparency and fairness in the workplace.

Mr Johnston says both employers and employees are encouraged to be aware of the upcoming changes and ensure that the necessary work is completed before the law comes into force.
