Cycling on the Island is seen more as a sport than a means of transport.

The view of former professional cyclist Rob Holden, speaking following recent criticism of certain types of cycles lanes.

Britain's cycling commissioners have this week said the ones which are painted on roads are pointless and do little to make cyclists safer.

The Manx government recently launched an 'Active Travel Strategy', to try and improve health and the environment by taking more cars off the road.
