Dean of St German's Cathedral Nigel Godfrey says he's willing to allow Manx Telecom to look into siting a mast there.
The plans have proven controversial in some quarters, with an anonymous protester issuing leaflets and posters around the town opposing them.
Meanwhile Peel MHK Tim Crookall has called for the firm to organise a public meeting, so local residents and commissioners can quiz MT about the move.
Mr Godfrey however says the cathedral is in the hands of Manx Telecom and its advisers, who assure him the proposals fall well within the safety margins required.
He says he is very willing to explore the possibility of making use of the cathedral tower to enable communications to be improved in Peel.
