Local authority wants to 'minimise' accidents during winter re-opening

Castletown Commissioners says the Department of Infrastructure needs to put 'mitigation measures' in place before Market Square is reopened to vehicles in winter.

The local authority wants to see 'clearly defined' limits to minimise potential accidents between pedestrians and traffic.

It's also asking the DoI to take full responsibility for any incidents, saying it won't 'assume' any liability from the decision to re-open the square to vehicles or from a failure to 'implement and enforce' safety measures.

The commissioners say it remains 'committed' to supporting the 'safe and effective' use of Market Square and will work with the department to ensure a solution that prioritises public safety and community wellbeing.

The Department of Infrastructure has been contacted for comment.
