It says other events including The Olympics will be shown instead

Castletown Commissioners has confirmed it won't be showing the European Football Championships on its big screen in the square.

In a statement on Facebook it said a 'significant number' of licensed premises will be showing the football, but if either England or Scotland make it to the final a decision will be made by the board.

It also says the screen is run by the commissioners, but it's not owned by the town and football isn't a sport that is within an operation agreement.

The local authority says other events will be shown during the summer including The Olympics, Wimbledon and the Tour de France.

The commissioners said: "We are grateful to be in a position to continue with the proposed sporting calendar in Market Square through the availability of the screen at no cost to the commissioners."
