Scarlet Fever reported in Island

Cases of Scarlet Fever have been reported in the Isle of Man, according to public health officials.

The 'easily spread, bacterial illness' causes symptoms including a sore throat, headache, fever and a fine red-coloured rash with a 'sandpapery' feel.

Also called scarlatina, the infection is most common in young children.

Whilst there's no vaccination, you're advised to contact your doctor if these symptoms appear.

Early antibiotic treatment, effective hand washing and cleaning can help reduce the risk of complications and spreading.
