Former chief minister asking questions from the backbench

The former chief minister will quiz his replacement about conflicts of interest concerning the Mooir Vannin windfarm project today (3 November).

Ayre and Michael MHK Alfred Cannan wants to know which of Chris Thomas’ ministers have declared a conflict arising from previous public statements they’ve made.

In the run up to the General Election prospective MHKs were told, by the Attorney General’s Chambers, that adopting a position could impact future decision making.

You can find out more HERE.

In the House of Keys Mr Cannan will ask what arrangements have been made for ministers' non-participation in a determination about the application.

Question Time

Mr Cannan, who is now a backbench MHK, will also ask the infrastructure minister about bus services in the north of the Island and coastal erosion protection.

There are eight questions tabled for answer on today’s order paper.

Douglas East MHK Joney Faragher will ask the cabinet office minister, a position also being held by Chris Thomas, to commit to a review of the Suicide Prevention Strategy.

She is calling for particular reference to the rollout of a ‘fully resourced and connected suspected suicide rapid response team’.

Ms Faragher will also ask Health and Social Care Minister Claire Christian how she intends to strengthen the Crisis Support Team.

Her political colleague Andy Saunders will ask the enterprise minister about a delegation which attended the Liverpool Innovation and Impact Awards on 22 October.

He wants to know which businesses were represented, travel and accommodation costs and about the measurable investment or business outcomes expected.

Committees

Three members of the House of Keys will be elected to the Management and Members’ Standards Committee.

The members of this committee will also represent the House of Keys on the Tynwald Standards and Privileges Committee.

Five members will also be appointed to the Standing Orders Committee.

Listen

The House of Keys sitting will start at 10am.
