Government's asking for feedback on proposed changes to election process

Candidates may need to declare their relevant interests before standing in next year's General Election.

It's one of a number of proposals government's asking for feedback on.

Government says the changes, if passed, will modernise and improve transparency, accessibility and efficiency in both national and local elections.

It's also proposing to allow postal votes to be pre-verified to speed up the count on election day.

For elections to the House of Keys, Cabinet Office also plans to host one pre-election meeting for each constituency.

The next general election takes place on Thursday 24 September 2026.

If the Elections Amendment Bill is passed by Tynwald and receives Royal Assent by March 2026, the amendment regulations will be put before Tynwald for approval the following month.
