Local dad Richard Little says the estate's pub has better equipment than the council park
A campaign has been started by a local parent in an attempt to improve the play area in Governors Hill.
Richard Little has started 'Update Governors Hill Play Park' to try and pressure Douglas City Council into adding new equipment and 'modernising' the space.
He's been visiting a number of other facilities around the Island and believes the local pub has better equipment than the council-owned area.
Mr Little says good play areas can help develop children's social skills as well as their balance and physical strength.
Local Democracy Reporter Emma Draper has been speaking to him:
The Chair of the Regeneration and Community Committee on Douglas Council Natalie Byron-Teare said: "We understand that residents wish to see new equipment installed in their local play areas and fully recognise the important role playgrounds play in supporting children’s social, physical and mental development. The Council remains committed to maintaining these spaces.
"While the equipment at Governors Hill is in relatively good condition, similar to the other various play areas throughout Douglas, we are always looking for opportunities to enhance our facilities and acknowledge the community’s desire for improvements.
"Repairs to the edging on some of the safety matting at Governors Hill play area is scheduled to take place within the next month, ahead of the school holidays.
"Any future upgrades will be considered as part of the outcomes from a forthcoming 10-year capital plan.
"We thank residents for their continued patience and engagement and we will share further updates once the capital plan has been reviewed."
