CALM dismiss claims of consultation bias

Initial results suggest support for reform

Pro-choice campaign group CALM has dismissed claims a recent consultation on abortion law was 'biased' towards those who favour reform.

Stephanie Kelsey from Campaign for Abortion Law Modernisation or CALM says questions in the recent six-week survey were objective and worded in neutral manner.

Pro-life group Humanity and Equality in Abortion Reform had branded the consultation 'one -sided' and says the proposed changes are 'regressive'.

Eighty-seven per cent of respondents to the survey felt women should have the right to request a termination up to fourteen weeks into pregnancy.

More than three and a half thousand people gave their views during the six-week long consultation.
