Does Tynwald need another committee?

Tynwald is to be asked to set up a Standing Committee on Justice, Constitutional and Legal affairs.

Itss remit will be to take evidence from witnesses and to report on matters as they affect the Island - relating to the administration of justice, legal services, the work of the Attorney General and constitutional issues.

The motion is being brought to the court by East Douglas member Chris Robertshaw.

He says it follows on from work he undertook six years ago to review the whole concept of how the committee sytem worked.

While there's a clear separation of powers between the judiciary, the parliamentary process and the executive, Mr Robertshaw says there's also a sense that the judiciary is 'nothing to do with Tynwald members':
