MHK and Manx Labour Party both want to see leadership
The Isle of Man government's been facing calls to show leadership on the issue of climate change, in the wake of a gloomy forecast by the United Nations.
A rise in global temperatures must be curbed to 1.5°C in the next twelve years or extreme weather events will worsen, according to the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
It's predicted hundreds of millions of people would suffer from further droughts, floods, extreme heat and poverty.
In the wake of this latest report, the Manx Labour Party is calling for 'urgent and drastic' change, and chiefly, leadership on this issue.
The party want to see a government set up a panel of locally appointed experts to form a steering team to lead policy on climate change.
The MLP's Green Issues coordinator Joney Faragher explained to Local Democracy Reporter Ewan Gawne what the party wants to see happen.
Echoing the call for more leadership is Douglas North MHK Ralph Peake, who feels the report makes for alarming reading.
