Bus strike reaches halfway mark

The bus strike over driver’s paid lunch breaks continues today – with most services cancelled and a few routes operating to weekend timetables.

Picket lines around the Island are being manned by staff who’ve staged a three-day walkout which is due to continue tomorrow.

The dispute has culminated in a strike as the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure tries to save £300,000 from its budget this year.

This morning, a motorist who drove through the picket line at Banks Circus was quizzed by police officers after they went the wrong way around the Tesco roundabout.

Strikers on the picket line at Port Erin claim they were verbally abused by the son of a manager this morning.
