'Work to rule' period ends

Bus drivers are standing firm following their week of action on the Island.

Unite members employed by Bus Vannin have been working to rule over the last five days, in protest at the Department of Infrastructure's plan to limit the number of drivers who can take holiday during TT fortnight.

The union also claims the department wants drivers to take annual leave outside of the main school holiday periods, including in the winter.

Unite head Eric Holmes has accused management of using 'typical Tory tactics from a long time ago' and the action shows there's a shortage of staff.

He says whilst the drivers had been flexible on the issue of staff having to book holidays up to nine months in advance, this had been rejected by director of transport Ian Longworth.
