Surprise party held at Onchan AFC
A surprise party has been held for WWII veteran and Burma Star recipient James Fenton on his 104th birthday (21 April).
Taking place at Onchan AFC, the Douglas resident was greeted by a guard of honour and the tune of Happy Birthday, as performed by Onchan Silver Band.
Mr Fenton served as a Bombardier with the 178 Field Regiment of the Royal Artillery and was deployed to Burma at the age of 20, fighting in the challenging conditions of the jungle as part of the 14th Army, often referred to as the “Forgotten Army.”
During Tuesday's party, Mr Fenton was presented with an official Gurka Regiment Terai slouch hat by the Lieutenant Governor.
