British Irish Council Summit on Island

The Island is hosting the 23rd British-Irish Council (BIC) Summit today (Fri 23rd)

The meeting will be attended by leaders and ministers from the eight BIC Member Administrations: The UK and Irish Governments, the devolved administrations of the Scottish and Welsh Governments and Northern Ireland Executive, the Governments of Jersey and Guernsey and of course the Isle of Man.

It's the third time a British-Irish Council Summit has been held in the Isle of Man.

The BIC was established under the terms of the Good Friday peace agreement.

It aims to develop positive links between member countries and provide a platform for consultation and co-operation on matters of mutual interest.

Today's meeting will focus on digital inclusion, although the Council will also discuss the economic situation in their respective jurisdictions.

Whilst there are currently no details on exactly who is in attendance at today's meeting it's thought likely Irish Taoiseach Enda Kenny is here, along with Scotland's new first Minister Nicola Sturgeon and possibly Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland Martin McGuinness.
