Popularity boost following TV coverage
Organisers of the Southern 100 say TV coverage is helping the road races reach a new audience - and expand.
The Billown event, famous for its mass rider start and close racing, reached a UK-wide audience on ITV4 this summer, along with coverage on specialist motorsport channels.
An external report by business consultancy Carse Hannay has revealed the Southern's popularity is growing rapidly.
The report published this month, said 3,200 people attended - double the number in 2010 - spending around £1.4 million in the local economy.
It estimated Treasury has benefited to the tune of £182,000.
