Bride organising waste collection after Birchalls arrangement 'terminated'

Local authority says more details will be published shortly

Bride Parish Commissioners says it's organising a waste collection service after the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture terminated its arrangement with Birchalls.

The northern local authority stopped paying to use the Northern Civic Amenity Site earlier this year, leaving those who live in the parish unable to use the ratepayer funded facility.

Residents were previously advised to take their refuse to Birchalls free of charge, but the commissioners now says that agreement has come to an end.

In a post on social media, the board says: "We have no problem with this, it is [DEFA's] job to ensure safe and compliant practice. We deeply regret that they did not apply the same level of scrutiny to the management of the Civic Amenity site. Had they done so, our concerns such as operating without a contract for four years would have been addressed and this whole fiasco averted."

The authority says more details will be provided shortly.
