Ceremony at former home of suffragette
A key figure in the women's suffrage movement will be honoured in Douglas today (Fri 14/09)
A blue plaque is being unveiled at the former home of Sophia Goulden on Strathallen Crescent.
The mother of Emmeline Pankhurst, she was born in Lonan in 1833, later moving to Manchester with her husband and raising 11 children.
She introduced Emmeline to the suffrage movement, with her daughter going on to becoming one of its leaders.
Douglas Mayor Jon Joughin will unveil the plaque in a public ceremony, which is due to start at 1pm.
