Bishop limits Tynwald interventions in debates

Had to speak out on abortion debate

The Bishop says he has only spoken in Tynwald debates when he feels he can offer pastoral advice or perspective.

Reflecting on his first full year in the role, Peter Eagles believes his place in the political system is still valid.

In June 2017, it was decided the Bishop should retain a permanent seat on the Legislative Council with full voting powers.

And last February, Tynwald narrowly retained the position of the religious leader being able to vote on policy matters.

Bishop Peter says the abortion debate was the hardest one on which to speak during 2018 but there were points he felt he had to make.
