Reflections on Lisvane decision
The Lord Bishop says he would have respected a decision to remove his political power.
Tynwald yesterday agreed to preserve the religious leader's traditional seat on the Legislative Council, a position supported by the Church of England and Lord Robert Lisvane.
Peter Eagles, who became the Island's 87th Lord Bishop in September, says he never felt 'threatened' by a bid to remove his right to vote on policy matters.
While he admitted there are members who 'know more than [he does] about finance and economics', he believes the position brings spiritual perspective - and that politics requires a balance with religious custom:
