Life's What You Make It

Bishop calls time for Tynwald

Speeches at this July's sitting of Tynwald will be time limited.

It's after the court voted in favour of a motion from the Lord Bishop which proposed it should experiment with restricted times for one sitting of the court only.

A Standing Orders Committee will review the experiment and report back in November this year.

It means members will have a maximum time of 20 minutes to make a statement or move a report, fifteen minutes for any other motion, 10 to move an amendment and just 5 to answer a tabled or supplementary question.

In summing up, the Lord Bishop said it the idea would be to try the new method as an experiment only - as had been stated by Castletown MHK Richard Ronan.
