Sir Keir Starmer announces 2027 ban for apps like Snapchat and TikTok
The education minister says 'big discussions' will have to be held over whether the Isle of Man follows the UK in banning social media for under-16s.
The UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has today announced restrictions on young people accessing apps such as Snapchat, TikTok and YouTube.
It's expected that the new regulations will come into force early next year.
"I do have concerns as to how they will police it."
Daphne Caine says time will tell what route the Island takes:
Minister Caine was speaking alongside other members of the Department of Education, Sport and Culture on Manx Radio's Mannin Line today.
"It's going to be interesting to see what comes out in the UK, how well it goes down, how well it sticks."
Paul Craine MLC says he can understand why the UK has announced such a move:
The Isle of Man Government has been contacted for a statement regarding Sir Keir Starmer's announcement.
