Gwen Valentine was killed in hit-and-run in 2014
The son of a woman who died at the hands of a re-offending prisoner says ensuing reform to the system has helped ease the 'agony' of the experience.
Stuart Valetine's mother Gwen was hit by a car driven by 'volatile' convict Donovan Kitching in April 2014.
Tynwald yesterday received the findings of a year-long investigation into the failings leading up to Kitching's release, just three weeks before he caused Mrs Valentine's death.
In a statement, Mr Valentine thanked members as well as the inquiry's leader, Geoff Karran, and all who took part in what he called 'a display of genuine public spirit and openness'.
He added 'the harder work starts now' towards maintaining higher standards in the prison system, and preventing similar tragedies in the future.
