34-year-old hadn't told Treasury his circumstances had changed

A Douglas man has been fined after making false representations to obtain more than £4,000 in benefits he wasn’t entitled to.

Carl James Druggan, of Keppel Road, didn’t tell Treasury his circumstances had changed – and he was no longer paying rent – during the period he was claiming Jobseeker's Allowance.

The 34-year-old admitted the offences, which dated between April and August, during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse.

His advocate told the court: “He apologises for the misunderstanding.”

Fining Druggan £950, and ordering him to pay prosecution costs of £50, Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood told him: “This was, in effect, an oversight.”
