The backup vessel was made ready yesterday amid ongoing technical issues with the Manxman
The Ben-my-Chree is facing further delays after its essential firefighting equipment was damaged.
The Steam Packet Company has issued an update on the service.
The fire drencher pipework on the vehicle deck was damaged during freight loading operations at Heysham overnight.
It was then given a temporary dispensation to enable the sailing to depart in the early hours of this morning.
However, as the equipment is safety critical, the repairs must be carried out for the Ben to sail.
Those repairs in Douglas are said to have taken longer than anticipated which has led to further delays.
She was due to sail at 8.30 this morning, but that was been pushed back to 12.30pm.
Passengers onboard have been offered complimentary refreshments while they've been waiting.
The backup vessel was made ready yesterday (Tuesday 19 August) as an alternative, amid ongoing technical issues with the Manxman.
The Steam Packet has apologised to all those affected by the current disruptions and has thanked them for their patience and understanding.
