Ban for driver who had almost four times legal limit of cocaine in system

26-year-old told he'd made 'very silly mistake'

A Douglas man has been banned from the road after riding his motorbike whilst he had almost four times the legal limit of cocaine in his system.

Thomas William Quayle, of Campion Way, was stopped by police at 3.30am on 28 April 2024.

Officers pulled him over on Central Promenade after noting his driving licence had expired; the 26-year-old failed a drug wipe test and was arrested.

At Douglas Courthouse he pleaded guilty to drug driving and possession of the Class A drug; the court heard Quayle had 0.6 grams, worth £60, in his pocket.

During sentencing Quayle’s advocate told the court: “He’s made a mistake on the night in question. He’s taken something he shouldn’t have.

“Mr Quayle is remorseful and clearly these offences are out of character.”

Fining Quale £2,000, and ordering him to pay £125 in prosecution costs, Magistrates told him: “This has turned out to be a very costly exercise for you in many ways. It was a very silly mistake.”

Quayle was disqualified from driving for two years and until he’s taken and passed an extended driving test.
