23-year-old was more than double the legal limit
A Ballasalla man has been banned from the road for three years after being caught driving whilst more than double the legal limit.
George Bibby, of Bayrauyr Road, was stopped by police on Old Castletown Road in Douglas, just before midnight, on 11 November.
Officers had seen the 23-year-old driving on South Quay in Douglas and noted he was braking heavily.
Bibby told them he’d consumed one alcoholic drink on a night out; he failed a roadside breath test and was arrested and taken to Police Headquarters.
At Douglas Courthouse he admitted the offence and was fined £1700 and ordered to pay prosecution costs of £125; he’ll remain disqualified until he’s served the ban and passed an extended driving test.
Sentencing Bibby, Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood told him: “It’s clear you had considerably more than one alcoholic drink that evening.”
