A planning application for a knitwear factory was also discussed by the board

Malew Commissioners met this morning (4 September) to discuss a number of issues affecting the parish.

On the agenda was government’s new waste strategy and ‘principles’.

The commissioners agreed that the questions were more like statements and expressed their disappointment that it should’ve been brought to the board first.

There were also concerns about how it would affect local authorities if it was to be centralised and statements about it being cheaper may not be correct.

Members also said it was ‘aspirational’ but it was agreed to allow the clerk to fill out the consultation on behalf of the commissioners.

Also on the agenda was a planning application to allow a knitwear company to use Barrule House on Ronaldsway Industrial Estate.

The commissioners said there has been a request from the government to include active travel routes and accessibility plans due to the number of parking spaces in the proposal.

They were also told the business is hoping to move into the warehouse at some point next year.

A point was raised about refuse collections, the clerk said he will give them a quote if they want the local authority to carry it out, and explain what other options are available to them.

The commissioners agreed to support the application.

An application for a new Ballasalla Airport Garage was also discussed by the board.

It would see the garage modernised, with some self-service pumps and separate parking spaces for those using the shop.

The board agreed it would be an ‘improvement’ to the shop, whilst a second unit will be built next door and decided to support it.

An update was also provided about the ongoing issue with Balthane Roundabout.

The clerk said the Department of Infrastructure is waiting for deeds to be signed from four other people, but the covenant is being dealt with by the Attorney General’s Chambers.

Malew Commissioners will next meet on Wednesday, 2 October.
