"Back to square one": father of injured 12-year-old says Alder Hey referral 'revoked'

Further twist as Manx Care confirms a pause in non-urgent procedures

The case of a 12-year-old boy who's treatment at Alder Hey for an injured leg was denied due to Manx Care cuts has taken another turn.

After reaching out to Manx Radio this morning to highlight his son's case, the boy's father - David O'Brien - was told his son could travel to Liverpool for treatment after all.

In spite of the delay to treatment (the family should have been attending Alder Hey today) David said it was a 'great result' after several days of 'stress and anxiety'.

Now, however, Mr O'Brien says he's been contacted once again to be told the referral for treatment has been revoked.

Since broadcast this morning, Manx Care has confirmed that it's put measures in place to combat its 'financial challenges'.

Among the measures included is a pause in non-urgent procedures in Liverpool and Manchester until 31 March.
