Back to prison for man who breached probation

Anthony Lyons handed 12-week sentence

A recently-released prisoner who told probation workers he wasn't interested in speaking to them has found himself back behind bars.

Thirty-two-year-old Anthony John Richard Lyons of Spring Valley Road in Douglas appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to breaching a probation order on 14 February and criminal damage on 17 February.

Prosecution advocate James Robinson told the court Lyons was supposed to be under probation supervision after being released from prison following convictions for theft, but refused to go to a meeting or answer his phone.

The court heard drug addict Lyons was caught by a car’s dash camera as he spat on it and punched a wing mirror while it was parked in Spring Gardens in Douglas on 17 February.

Lyons had been contacted by probation workers, but said he didn't see the point in speaking to them because they couldn't give him a bus pass or a place to live.

After he was arrested he told officers he couldn't remember damaging the car because he'd been drinking non-stop for a week after getting out of jail.

Magistrates scrapped the previous probation order, and sent Lyons to prison for 12 weeks in total.
