Assessment of social need on Island highlights areas of deprivation

The first full assessment of social need in the population based on geographic area, has highlighted pockets of deprivation around the Island.

The Joint Strategic Needs Assessment brings together data on areas from income, employment and health to crime and education.

Government says the information, based on post code, has never been collected in this way before - and the results show clearly where limited public money should be spent.

It has revealed communities in local authority housing in Douglas and Ramsey are among the most deprived in the Island.

And it identifies 'hotspots' for rates of emergency admissions to hospital, and for mental health problems.

Policy and Reform minister Chris Robertshaw says the data will influence important decisions:
