Arbory rates to go up

Two-pence rise announced

Arbory Commissioners have announced a rate rise for the coming financial year.

It's been set at 117 pence in the pound, a two-pence increase.

The local authority says the reasons for the move include a general rise of one per cent in Manx inflation, the need to replace lighting standards, and charges at the incinerator and at the Southern Civic Amenity Site going up.

They say these have been partly offset by rates on the new houses on Cronk Cullyn, but the rates income from the two quarries in the parish, based on tonnages extracted, has reduced quite significantly this year.
