April the sunniest on record

264.9 hours of sunshine

Forecasters on the Isle of Man say April 2021 was the sunniest on record. 

High pressure dominated with 264.9 hours of sunshine recorded last month. 

It beats the previous April record, from 2007, by over 30 hours. 

Data from Ronaldsway Met Office shows the mean daily temperature was 10.5 degrees Celsius – around one degree below the long term average. 

During the course of the month there were two nights with an air frost  and 17 with a ground frost - that’s the most on record beating 15 nights in 1978.

The coldest temperature recorded was -1.6 degrees Celsius, in the early hours of 10 April, which was the lowest April figure recorded since 1989.

13.2mm of rainfall was measured during the course of the month making it the 4th driest April on record.

No fog or thunder was recorded throughout the 30 days.
