An MHK says the Island's approach to joint income tax assessments 'doesn't seem fair'.

Currently only married couples or those in civil partnerships qualify, and those living together with a child.

Ramsey member Lawrie Hooper will put forward a motion to Tynwald this month proposing that joint income tax treatment should be extended to cohabiting couples, regardless of whether they have children:

The Treasury has been invited to respond.

This month's Tynwald sitting gets underway on 21 April.
